K C Pant was eminent public figure, able administrator: Manmohan Singh
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said he was "deeply saddened" by the death of former Union Minister K C Pant and the country had lost an eminent public figure and able administrator.
Pant died here this morning of cardiac arrest. He was 81.
In his condolence message to Mrs Ila Pant, the wife of K C Pant, Dr Singh described the former Union Minister as a leader who served the country and people with great distinction.
"In his passing away, the country has lost an eminent public figure and an able administrator," the Prime Minister said.
He said Pant served the country and people with great distinction in his long political career and distinguished himself as a Member of Parliament and as a Minister in the Union Council of Ministers holding important portfolios like Home, Defence and Finance.
He also served as Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, the Prime Minister added.
