Madhya Pradesh Industries Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya today said that Katni District Collector was asked to submit a report on the alleged self-immolation of a farmer's wife over acquisition of irrigated land by the government for setting up a power plant by a private company.
Suniya Bai (50) immolated after set herself ablaze in Dokriya village on Tuesday night. Several political parties including main Opposition Congress attributed the woman's death to "forcibly" acquisition of farmers' land to setup a Greenfield Thermal Power Plant by Welspun Energy Madhya Pradesh Limited (WEMPL) at Bujbuja village in Katni district.
"Initial report said that the woman took the extreme step due to family dispute. However, the collector was asked to submit the investigation report on priority basis and action will be initiated if any official or worker is found guilty in the case," the Minister told UNI.
Mr Vijayvargiya said that the land was acquired long time ago for setting up the proposed power plant of WEMPL and compensation was also given to the persons concerned. "Hence, question does not arise for forcibly acquisition or distribution of compensation," he pointed out.
