The Malabar Chamber of Commerce (MCC) and Malabar Train Action Committee (MTAC) today urged the Centre to halt the proposal to extend Maveli Express and Mangalapuram Express to Nagerkoil as this would cause much inconvenience to the passengers in Malabar region.
In a memorandum to Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, MCC President Alok Kumar Saboo and MTAC Chairman P V Gangadharan said the move to extend the trains on the pretext of shortage of maintenance staff was not justifibale.
Calling upon the government to appoint adequate workmen for the purpose, they said reservation quota meant for the passengers in the region would be forefeited if the proposal was implemented.
The move would also adversely affect development of Thiruvananthapuram and Palghat divisions in the State, the memorandum added.
