Special cultural events, entertainment programmes would be arranged in the evening in all parts of the state.

Special all community Ningol Chakkouba festival was also observed and participated by different ethnic groups settled in the state.

According to reports, the festival was also celebrated by the Manipuris abroad.

The Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) also greeted people on the occasion.

Laisna, wife of Manipur King Nongda Lairen Pakhangba invited her brother Poreiton for a feast on the second of Manipuri month Hiyangei in the first century AD and since then the festival is celebrated.

People started experiencing some problems as brothers could not decide which house to visit. The celebrations continued in that tradition for a long until in the early 19th century during the reign of King Chandrakirti the tradition was changed and instead of brothers visiting their sisters, married women were invited for feasts at their parental house.
