Galaxy of personalities visit Bal Thackeray's residence
A galaxy of celebrities, industrialists and politicians are queuing up at the residence of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray in the western suburb of Bandra to enquire about his health, sources said.
While last night Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek visited him, his foe and best friend Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar visited him today.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan also visited him this afternoon.
Besides these leaders, other prominent personalities who have called on him at his residence were Home Minister R R Patil, NCP state president Madhukar Pichad, Congress leader Hussain Dalwai, industrialists Rahul Bajaj, film director Madhur Bhandarkar, actor Salman Khan, all the Sena legislators and MPs, BJP leaders Nitin Gadkari and Gopinath Munde.
Bal Thackeray's son and Sena executive president Uddhav and his nephew and MNS chief Raj are at his bedside.
A huge crowd of Sena activists had gathered outside the Thackeray residence since late last night.
A team of doctors along with nursing staff has been closely monitoring the Sena patriarch, who has been suffering from breathing problems.
Uddhav has urged people to pray for his father. He said 'We are hopeful. You be hopeful. Let's all pray.' Security has been beefed up around 'Matoshri' and the surrounding areas.
According to sources, shops have been shut in Sena strongholds in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, many Mumbaikars tweeted about the situation on the streets of the city where taxis have preferred to stay off the roads.
Reports also claimed that most people kept their shops closed voluntarily in Mumbai and the suburbs.
