The fire brigade personnel received as many as 56 fire-related calls during diwali festival as the city-goers were busy bursting fire-crackers and lighting lamps in their respective residential and business premises.
According to fire brigade, the fire calls came in from areas such as Vejalpur, Odhav, Naroda Patia and Vadaj, though no major incident or casualties were reported. The fire brigade received as many as five calls within the timespan of 20 minutes on the late night of November 12, the Kali chaudas day. The fire at all places broke out due to irresponisble bursting of fire crackers.
A tree was gutted day before yesterday in Vadaj area of the city due to fire crackers. At several places, dustbins and wastepaper baskets caught fire as they were ignited by fire crackers.
Meanwhile, two major incidents of fire were reported in Vadodara and Valsad, where several shops in fire cracker markets were gutted after the shops caught fire, three days ago. A young child was killed in the fire in Vadodara fire cracker market.
