Release man who took my photos: P Chidambaram
Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday requested the Tamil Nadu Police to 'immediately' release the person who was arrested in Chennai for taking his photos.
"I was surprised and disappointed to learn that a person who reportedly attempted to take some pictures of me was detained by the police at Chennai airport on 13.11.2012," Chidambaram said in a statement.
"I did not know about the incident until the media reported it yesterday (14.11.2012) evening. Immediately, I told PTI that I had no knowledge of the incident and nobody had told me about it then or subsequently," he said.
"I do not know why the police had detained the person concerned. I have asked my office to get in touch with the Tamil Nadu Police and request them to release the person immediately," said the minister.
34-year-old Amir, who on Tuesday took some photos of the Finance Minister at the Chennai airport while he was about to catch a flight to Delhi, was arrested on Wednesday.
The police interrogated Amir for hours before arresting him.
Amir, who was having a confirmed first-class tickets to Delhi and from there to Dubai, was seen taking Chidambaram's pictures with his camera, airport sources said.
