MIM behind communal disturbances in old city: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today alleged that the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) was responsible for the communal disturbances in the Old City for the past few weeks in order to cover up its inability to bring development in the Old City.

Addressing the press here, BJP Andhra Pradesh Unit President and MLA G Kishan Reddy alleged that though the MIM had been enjoying power in the old city for the past four decades, the old city had not witnessed any development.

The Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat was being won by the MIM since 1984, but it failed to bring any Central project for the city, he further alleged.

Mr Reddy said the MIM leaders had unnecessary created a controversy around Bhagyalakshmi Temple only to blackmail the State Government to get land of Mahavir Hospital.

He said the non-seriousness about the MIM's decision could be gauged from the fact that it did not even give a formal letter to Governor ESL Narasimhan about the withdrawal of support. The MIM leaders did not even seek time for appointment with the Governor, he said.
