Introduce new courses: Maritime Varsity told
Chairman National Shipping Board(NSB) Capt P V K Mohan today asked the Maritime University to take up more initiatives to conduct new courses like dredging and others to cater to the needs of the marine industry in the country.
Addressing the students in connection with the University Day celebrations here, he said he would strive hard to provide sufficient funds from the Ministry of Shipping for the development of the Univeristy to take up new courses.
He said the Shipping ministry had already sanctioned funds for the construction of new campus in an extent of 114 acres at Sabbavaram in Visakhapatnam district. The construction work will start as soon as the district administration hand over the land to the University authorities.
Stating that the campus had all infrastructure facilities, he said the campus should become a separate University in future. He asked the management of the University to concentrate on the dredging course which has tremendous potential for the job.
"There is shortage of manpower in dredging industry and we need lot of dredging facilities". he added.
He also underlined the need for taking up courses of the fishermen folk to provide employment for the talented youth in the community.
