Bal Thackeray continues to be critical: sources
Ailing Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's health is worsening and his condition was described as 'critical' this morning, party sources said.
Meanwhile, the police were on high alert throughout the state.
'Balasaheb's condition is very, very critical, even as a team of doctors from Lilavati hospital was monitoring Thackeray's health',the sources said.
Balasaheb's son and Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray, his nephew and MNS chief Raj Thackeray and other relatives were at his bedside. Shiv Sainiks, including senior Sena leaders Manohar Joshi and Subhash Desai, made a beeline to Matoshree on learning about the Sena chief's health.
Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek and musician Bappi Lahiri visited Matoshree last night.
Meanwhile, Uddhav and Raj made an appeal to Shiv sainiks on loudspeakers, appealing them to keep their emotions under control. All efforts were being made for his recovery, Mr Thackeray added.
Police threw a security ring around Matoshree.
Thackeray has been ill for over two weeks. He was admitted to Lilavati hospital in July this year after he complained of breathlessness and constipation. Since then, he has been wheeled into Lilavati on two more occasions. He was unable to attend the Sena's Dussehra rally last month due to poor health. A video-tape of his address was played at the annual party conclave held at Shivaji Park.
Former President Pratibha Patil called on at Matoshree earlier this week to inquire about Balasaheb's health.
Maharashtra leaders, including Chhagan Bhujbal, Gopinath Munde and Ramdas Athavale had also visited Matoshree. NCP chief Sharad Pawar made a call to Thackeray's son Uddhav on Tuesday and inquired about the Sena chief's health.
