Numismatic exhibition inaugurated
East Godavari District Library Authority chairman B Prasada Raju has inaugurated a two-day Numismatic exhibition under the aegis of District numismatic and philately society at the district library here today.
He has complimented the organizers for providing an opportunity to the people to have a glance at all currency and coins in use in the country for past 2,000 years.
'Displaying of coins and currency of as many as 175 countries is really a herculean task. Coins pertaining to environment are also exhibited and the organisers deserve every praise for the effort' he added. District Numismatic and philately society secretary Marni Janakiram Choudary, while explaining the salient features of the exhibition, said coins and currency that were in use from as early as first century including that of dynasties of Khushans, Sathavahanas, Mouryas and Vijayanagar empire besides British East India Company were displayed.
The Rs 1,000 currency note, printed in 1954 and withdrawn from circulation in 1978 March, forms part of the, major exhibits, he added.
