At least three people, including proprietor of a leading hotel, were killed in separate shooting incidents in Assam since last night, with anti-talks NDFB suspected to be behind the killing spree and most incidents concentrated in Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD).
Owner of Hotel Dynasty in Guwahati and tea gardens in Sonitpur district Azilur Rehman was killed when suspected NDFB gunmen fired indiscriminately on his car at Sootea in Sonitpur yesterday.
Rehman's security personnel also sustained serious injuries in the incident.
The killing led to spontaneous protests in Sonitpur, with people today blocking NH 52 near Jamugurihat.
Protests were also staged at Lakhtokia in Guwahati, where Rehman's hotel is located, and all businesses in this commercial hub were closed since this morning as a mark of protest.
In firing incidents in BTAD since last evening, one woman was shot dead at Diplai in Kokrajhar, while a man was shot dead at Simla in Baksa.
The anti-talks faction of the NDFB was suspected to be behind the incidents.
The recurrence of multiple violent incidents in BTAD since the last few days had fuelled apprehensions of the orgy of violence revisiting the districts that had witnessed ethnic riots in July this year, in which close to 100 people were killed and over 2.50 lakh displaced.
