Section 144 section was still in effect near the Bhagyalakshmi Temple located near the historical monument of Charminar in old city.

Amid tight security, a large number of devotees offered prayers at the temple yesterday (on Diwali day) and today in the morning also.

At old city, an undeclared curfew-like situation was still continuing near Charminar as police had blocked trunk routes following the tension escalated over the alleged expansion plan of the Bhagyalaxmi temple abutting the historic Charminar few days back.

Police had stepped up security at all strategic and communally sensitive places.

The erection of tarpans at the temple abutting the monument on Sunday last had sparked trouble leading to withdrawal of support by Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) to the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in New Delhi.

At present, the situation in old city was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported so far. However, the prohibitory orders would may continue tomorrow also, Deputy Commissioner of Police Akun Sabharwal said.
