1 killed, 7 injured in clash near Dewas on Diwali night: Police
One person was killed and seven others injured when gunshots were fired during a clash between members of Bagri and Patidar communities at Hatpipaliya town on Diwali night, police said.
The sound of crackers drowned out the noise of gunshots, police said.
Babulal of Patidar community and Jitendra of Bagri community had an argument over old enmity. Soon, a large number of people -- brandishing weapons -- from both sides entered into a confrontation. In the meantime, Babulal's friends opened fire, police said.
Ratan (34) was injured during the incident but gunshots were not heard due to the explosion of crackers nearby.
Chaos prevailed when he was being rushed to the hospital by his friends but he succumbed on the way. Ratan's friends Dharmendra, Sandeep, Arjun, Rahul, Basanta and Sanjay received stab injuries and were sent to Indore's Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital for treatment after primary medical aid, police said.
On the basis of Jitendra's complaint, police have booked Babulal and his friends Shankar, Rohan, Golu, Rajendra and others for murder and attempt to murder. Additional police force have been deployed in view of tension prevailing in the area.
