Leaders of all major political parties are burning midnight oil to finalise the lists of candidates for the first phase of polling, the notification for which will be announced on November 17.
Usually, the leaders prefer to be in their constituency during diwali festival to remain in public contact but this time they are sort of racing against the time to prepare the final lists. Marathon hearing on prospective candidates' resumes' are being carried out at the respective headquarters of the BJP, Congress and rebel leader Keshubhai Patel-led Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP).
The polling will be held in as many as 87 seats in the first phase on December 13, whereas, the polling for remaining 95 seats, out of total 182 seats, will be held on December 17. Senior Congress leaders including GPCC President Arjun Modhwadia's Porbandar seat and Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil's Bhavnagar Rural comes in first phase.
Majority of the first phase seats belong to Saurashtra and South Gujarat whereas, the second phase has majority seats from Kutch, North and Central Gujarat.
