The festival of lights, Deepavali, was celebrated with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm in the union territory today.
People clad in new clothes lit up the skies bursting varieties of crackers along with their neighbours in several areas. They also exchanged sweets prepared according to respective customs.
Special poojas were performed in all temples, including the famous Manakkula Vinayagar temple, where queues were seen since early this morning.Unlike last year when it was raining incessently, the plesant climate this year added to the spirit of the festivaties.
Puducherry Lt.Governor Iqbal Singh, Union Minister of State for PMO Mr V Narayanasamy, Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy and his cabinet colleagues and leaders of various political parties among others greeted the people on the occasion.
