The festival of lights, was celebrated with enthusiasm and religious fervour in Andhra Pradesh, while the cracker business remained sluggish in the city.
Dressed in their best finery people prayed at temples to celebrate the victory of good over evil.
Doll shows, Lakshmi puja and celebration of the death of demon Narakasura at the hands of Satyabhama by lighting up the skyline with fireworks early morning heralded the advent of Deepavali.
Trading community celebrated the event with exchange of pleasantries, sweets and gifts while shops and business establishments wore a decorative look.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy, who expressed his solidarity with the victims of Cyclone 'Nilam', has not celebrated Deepawali festival this year.
He has also advised the people not to visit him to extend their greeting on the occaion.
