Theatre legend remembered

Rich tributes were paid to Sankardas Swamigal, considered the father of Tamil theatre, on his 89th death anniversary here today.
CPI state secretary R Viswanathan,national council member Na Ra Kalainathan, and party functionaries among others paid floral tributes at the samadhi of the doyen at Karuvadikuppam near here.
They also sung songs written by Sankardass at the samadhi.
Volunteers of the Puducherry art and literature forum took out a procession to the samadhi carrying portraites of the swamigal and paid floral tributes.
Drama artists and Tamil scholars also paid tributes on the occasion.
