Suspected militants set off a bomb near Imphal College on the road leading to the airport on Monday killing one person and injuring another, media reports said.

The explosion occurred at around 5:15 pm and killed the victim, a labourer, who was returning from work.

The victim has been identified as Aleen Kom, 40, hailing from Sagang Village in Bishnupur District, reports said.

The powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion took place near the Tiddim Ground in the outskirts of the capital city of Manipur.

While no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, police suspect it to be the work of an insurgent outfit that has executed a series of similar attacks in the past months.
