Shiv Sena today called the 'bandh' in Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur districts tomorrow to protest against the death of a farmer in a clash with police during a state-wide agitation called to demand better remunerative price for sugarcane in Sangli district.
Senior Sena leader Diwakar Raote here said the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghtana (SSS), led by Raju Shetty, has been agitating since last five to six days in support of their demand of Rs 3,000 per quintal as the rate of first instalment for sugarcane for the farmers. Today the agitation turned violent causing the death of one farmer in clash with police.
To condemn death of the farmer and pay tribute to him, the Sena has called bandh tomorrow in Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur districts.
Mr Raote appealed to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to look into the matter and resolve long pending demand of the agitating farmers.
