Jatin Das to receive Buddha Samman

Eminent Artiste and painter Jatin Das has been choosen for the prestigious 'Buddha Samman' for the current year for his rich contribution to the field of creative and performing art.

The award instituted by Odisha Dance Academy five years ago to remember and preach the teachings of Gautam Buddha, would be presented during the ninth Dhauli-Kalinga Mahostav to be held from December 10 to 14 at the foothill of heritage site Dhauli.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a citation and an angabastra.

Organised by the Odisha Dance Academy in association with the Union Culture Mnistry, Indian Council for Cultural relations and Art Vision, Bhubaneswar since 2003, the festival was aimed at creating awareness of ancient Odishan culture to the young generation and to preserve, promote and popularise the heritage at the national and international level.

The Dhauli Kalinga Mahostav is also intended to preach the gospel of peace through the concerts of classical and folk dances and music by synthesizing quitessence of religion and faith. The festival sends the message of peace through martial arts represented from across the country and abroad.

Odisha Tourism and Culture Secretary Ashok Kumar Tripathy said on the inaugural day Odisha Dance Academy would present Odissi, the Samudra CICPA, Trivandum would present Kalaripayattu.

On the second day Gotipua dance would be performed by the artistes of Nakshatra Gurukul, Bhubaneswar, Vikram Iyengar and Group,Kolkotta would present kathak and Dushmanta Basa and Group, Rairangpur would present Shantali Danta a lesser known martial art form.

The artists of Badyabani Bhubaneswar, Guru Sharmila Biswas and Group, Kolkata and Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji Gatka Academy, Chandigarha would perform Mahodadhi,Odissi and Gatka respectively on the next day.

On the third day Sankha Dhwani would be presented by Sankha Dhawani Kala kendra, Ganjam,Bharatnatyam by Guru Anita Guha and Group,Chenai and Attakkalari by Attakkaliari centre for movement Arts, Bengaluru.

On the concluding day of the festival Patitapabadn odissi Shankirtani Mandali,Pipili,Guru Durga Charan Ranbir and Group, Bhubaneswar Odissi,Guru Illeana Citaresti and Group,Bhubaneswar Chhau and Paik Nrutya,Guru Nityananda Das and Group,Bhadrak Laudi Nrutya GOMMECOR,Kendrapara would present Kanchi Bijay Gitinatya for the entertainment of the visitors.
