Stolen infant recovered, woman arrested in Jammu
A woman was arrested for allegedly stealing a newborn from a city hospital of this winter capital of the state.
"Nahida, wife of Rouf Umar Bhat of Tarigaou, district Kulgam, Srinagar was arrested on specific information and the baby stolen from Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital was recovered from her," police here today said.
Police said one Alam Din of Jindrah, filed a complaint that a burqa-clad woman had abducted his child.
"The woman told the couple that a local bank pays Rs 3000 to the newborn babies and asked them to bring their child to the bank," police said, adding that after reaching the bank, the lady gave a slip to the parents and escaped with the baby.
Acting on a complaint, a case under Section 363 RPC was registered and investigations started.
"Police on a tip off yesterday conducted a raid in Nai Basti area and arrested the accused along with the child." Investigations are in progress, they added.
