Punjab Minister for Health and Family Welfare Madan Mohan Mittal launched a scathing attack on Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Health) Navjot Kaur Sidhu for her sting operation to catch Primary Health Centre Bharatgarh SMO Surjit Singh red handed while doing private practice at a Rupnagar recently, saying she had no right to conduct such sting operation against doctors.
Talking to mediapersons here today, Mr Mittal said in his department the duties of minister, principal secretary and director were defined and every one had to work as per their defined duties.
However, Dr Sidhu had conducted sting operation against SMO for which she did not have any authority. "A politician had no business to conduct sting operation against doctors, put them under confinement and order their arrest. It is the job of vigilance department to conduct such raids", Mittal said, adding even principal secretary and director of the department did not have such powers.
He also criticised Dr Sidhu for pressurising police for registering case against SMO Surjit Singh. He said no police case was made out against SMO and asked the police not to interfere in such matters. "Police can't and should not register any case against the SMO", Mittal said.
