The Indian High Commission officials in Sri Lanka today secured consular access to Indian prisoners and met all 38 of them to know about their well being.

According to the sources, "the officials met the Indian prisoners earlier in the day.

One prisoner completed her sentence and moved to the detention centre this morning for repatriation to India later this week.

"All are said to be safe. Some of them had minor medical complaints that are being attended to.

"Considering the harrowing experience they have gone through, the Indian High Commission is arranging delivery of food packets for them through the prison authorities on the occasion of Diwali tomorrow."

India had earlier last week said it is 'closely monitoring' the situation arising out of the violence at Welikada prison in Sri Lanka.

The riot started after authorities launched a search for any form of drugs within the prison, and the inmates turned against the operatives of the Special Task Force (STF).
