Pinki Pramanik chargesheeted after medical report confirms athlete is male
Asian Games gold medallist athlete Pinki Pramanik has been charged with rape and cheating.
The latest development in this regard took place after medical reports confirmed that Pramanik is a male.
Pramanik, who was arrested on June 14 after a woman charged that the athlete was a male and had raped her, had earlier on July 11 said the allegations levelled against her was a conspiracy to defame her.
She was granted bail by a local court in North 24 Parganas district earlier on July 10.
The Calcutta High Court had earlier ordered a probe into the alleged violation of Pinki's rights.
The court had also asked the government to file an affidavit against the allegations of rights violation within two weeks.
A 29-second MMS showing the athlete completely naked went viral on the Internet. The video was of Pinki undergoing a gender verification test at a private nursing home after she was arrested on June 14, 2012.
The West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC) had earlier issued a notice to the state police for insensitively handling Pinki's case.
