All India Congress Committee (AICC) member Abdul Gani Vakil today demanded action against bureaucrats, ministers and other politicians allegedly involved in corrupt practices in Jammu and Kashmir.
If the coalition National Conference (NC)-Congress government cannot act against bureaucrats and ministers then it has no moral authority to talk about eradication of corruption, Mr Vakil said here.
Terming the recent controversy over the constitution of Legislative Council (LC) House Committee for probing allegations against Public Health Engineering (PHE) and irrigation minister Taj Mohiuddin " unfortunate". he said if the probe is shelved, it would create a wedge between Congress leadership and common masses.
Nobody should be scared to face inquiry and if the person in dock claims to be on high moral ground, he should welcome investigation rather than creating impediments in it, the former minister said.
Mr Taj, representing Congress in the ministry, was accused of illegally occupying forest land in Shopian in south Kashmir.
However, he denied the allegations.
The LC chairman then appointed a House Committee to probe the allegations.
