Another cold morning in Kashmir, Leh at minus 10
People woke up to yet another morning in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, where Leh recorded coldest night of the season so far after the minimum dipped to minus 10 degree.
Owing to dry and clear sky during the night, the minimum drops below normal. However, the day temperature remained above normal.
A Met department spokesman said here that weather will be mainly dry over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
There would be no large change during subsequent two days, he said.
However, in border town of Kargil on Srinagar-Leh national highway, there was slight improvement though it was below freezing points. Against yesterday's minimum temperature of minus 4.4 degree it was minus 4 degree during the night.
Srinagar also recorded one degree below normal minimum temperature.
Because of dry and cold weather, people, mostly elders and children, are suffering from cold related diseases including cough, chest pain, bad cold and headache.
Long queues of patients could be seen outside the medical shops and clinics.
Despite minus temperature, tourists, including foreigners, continued to throng tourist places in the Kashmir valley.
At famed health resort of Pahalgam the minimum was minus 2.4 degree, about two degree below normal.
World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where the slopes still awaits heavy snowfall, recorded minus two degree minimum temperature.
Gate of Kashmir, Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu highway also witnessed coldest night when the minimum dipped to minus 1.2 degree, three degree below normal.
Elsewhere in the valley, the minimum remained below normal.
