Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar today said the government would make it compulsory to hold Gram Sabhas for children.
Responding to questions at Children's Parliament and Consultation here, he said. "At present only a circular has been issued to conduct Child Gram Sabhas to mark celebration of Childrens Day on November 14. Now it would be made compulsory by issuing a Government order." "However, people's representatives and NGOs should take more interest in this regard and bring pressure on Gram Panchayats to hold Sabhas for Children and solve their problems or bring it to the Government's knowledge," he added.
About children's demand for providing fee exemption and other benefits to the children of HIV/AIDs, Mr Shettar said steps would be taken to provide free scholarship to these children and all other facilities would be made available to the children of Devadasis.
