In view of the Ningol Chakkouba (inviting married women for feast) festival here on November 15, the entire state has gone on a shopping spree.

During the festival, all married women go to their parental house for a grand feast and they, along with their children, are presented with gifts by their parents and brothers.

District Handlooms and Textiles, Imphal West and other organisations has organised a Ningol Chakkouba Festive fair to enable people to buy various handloom items.

According to the organisers, there was shortage of handloom items as every family in Manipur purchases large numbers of products.

In the market areas, temporary stalls have come up in all lanes and bylanes.

Meanwhile, security measures were taken up to control traffic and heavy rush in the market areas.

Fish will be the main dish during the feasts and a fish mela will begin on Nov 14 organised by State Fishery department and local fish traders.
