7 injured in wild animal attacks in Kashmir
A bear was shot dead by wildlife authorities while seven persons were injured in attacks by wild animals in the Kashmir valley overnight, official sources said here today.
They said a wild bear entered village Kathpora Chursoo Awantipora in Pulwama district of South Kashmir and attacked villagers.
Four persons were attacked and injured by the bear who was later killed by wildlife shooters.
The bear had created havoc in the village for the past few weeks.
Three persons were injured in a similar bear attack at Laisoo Devsar in south Kashmir district of Kulgam.
The bear later escaped back into the woods, they said.
More than one hundred people, including women and children, have died in attacks by wild animals in the Jammu and Kashmir, where agitated people, wildlife shooters and police also killed about 20 wild animals during the past three years.
