Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh today strongly opposed the move of the Ambedkarnagar authorities to punish a Naib Tehsildar for complaining against a ruling Samajwadi Party MLA.

The BJP and Congress said the authorities should have lodged FIR against the SP MLA from Alapur constitutuency Bhim Prasad Maurya but instead probe has been initiated against the Naib Tehsildar Baijnath Maurya for raising his voice against the legislator.

This is the third such incident in the state in the recent past when officials raised protest against the working of the SP ministers or MLAs.

Earlier, UP minister Pandit Singh was sacked by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for kidnapping a CMO in Gonda while in Barabanki, SP MLA Rajiv Kumar Singh was found harrassing a government official. A minister rank, SP leader in Lucknow Natwar Goel clashed with mediapersons over his illegal construction.

BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahaur Pathak stated that the ' Chief Minister should act strictly against the party legislators, Ministers and even leaders so that the government officials and common people are not harassed." Mr Pathak questioned when the SP government would fail to tame its own leaders then how can it control the law and order of the state.

Congress spokesperson Virendra Madan stated that such incidents earn a bad name for the regime and it gives an impression that the government lacks commitment to control its rank and file.

' Samajwadi Party had promised to give a clean government by controlling the law and order situation but these incidents are earning negative points for the party as well as for the government,' Mr Madan said.
