UK tweeters 'linking innocent people with sex abuse scandals' face being sued
People in Britain using social networking sites such as Twitter to link innocent individuals with sex abuse scandals will face legal action, it has emerged.
The move follows Tory grandee Lord McAlpine being incorrectly labelled a paedophile on numerous Twitter accounts and dozens of Internet forums last week, the Daily Express reports.
Among those who mentioned the former Conservative Party treasurer and deputy chairman on Twitter was Guardian journalist George Monbiot and the Speaker's wife Sally Bercow.
According to the report, Lord McAlpine vowed to launch proceedings against 'all media' who defamed him.
