Markets witnessed festive enthusiasm today across Madhya Pradesh on the occasion of Dhanteras -- an auspicious day before Deepavali when precious metal is bought traditionally.
Shoppers made a beeline for jewellery and utensil shops that are crowded with people purchasing gold and silver ornaments as well as utensils besides gold coins.
Shopkeepers are trying to lure customers by not only decorating their stores but also offering attractive discounts.
With Deepavali round the corner, customers were seen buying idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. Fancy candlelights and crackers are high on demand too although the effect of enhanced awareness to keep environment pollution free as well as inflation was also observed.
Governor Ram Naresh Yadav, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Speaker Ishwardas Rohani, Leader of the Opposition in state Assembly Ajay Singh, state Bharatiya Janata Party chief and MP Pabhat Jha, state Congress president Kantilal Bhuria and other leaders extended greetings to the denizens on the occasion of Dhanteras and Deepavali.
