Mass wedding to mark minorities' welfare day
Eight couples entered into wedlock at the Muslims mass marriage held at the Sirat Committee Hall here today to mark the 124 birth anniversary of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad, being celebrated as the Minorities Welfare Day.
District Collector Neethu Kumari and city MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy who attended the function as the guests of honour, presented incentives to the newly wed couples, extended by the Minorities Corporation and Wakf Board.
The incentives included new clothes worth Rs 3,500, utensils worth Rs 4,000, almirah, cot, bed, blankets worth Rs 6,000 and 2 grams gold each besides serving of food to 50 people accompanying each couple.
The Collector advised the Muslims and other minorities to strive for their uplift and empowerment by educating their wards.
She also distributed Rs 12.23 lakh to beneficiaries towards subsidy for taking up various trades for making a living through the Minorities corporation.
