National Education Day was observed all over Mysore district with primary and secondary schools remaining open to conduct programmes spreading awareness about the importance of education.
The National Education Day-observed on the occasion of the birthday of India's first Union Education Minister Moulana Abul Kalam Azad since last year-got more awareness this year since it falls on a Sunday and schools were open for the day.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development and Department of Higher Education had declared the birth anniversary of Azad today as the National day. The day was observed at school level through programmes carried out during school hours.
Deputy Director of Public Instructions Basavaraju said in keeping with the government's policy of compulsory and free education for all children aged between 6 and 14 years Sit and Draw (on environment), quiz competition, plantation and gardening, cleaning of school campus for upper primary schools: Debate and essay competition (Importance of National Education Day).
For secondary and higher secondary schools, Debate competition on Child Rights and slogan writing on Child Rights were arranged.
Apart from the above activities, all educational institutions in and around the city organised seminars, symposia, rally with banners on the importance of education.
