Khadi Bhandars across Karnataka would be revived and modernised at a cost of Rs 25 lakh each, Karnataka State Khadi and Village Industries Board CEO K Nagaraju said today.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Khadi Expo, jointly organised by Karnataka Khadi and Village Industries Board and Department of Industries and Commerce here, he said the Board has been running 300 outlets across the State which needs to be revived and modernised.
"We have sent a proposal to the State Government seeking funds. The Board has planned to modernise the outlets and give a modern touch to attract youngsters. Works on the modernization will be done stage by stage taking five outlets every year," he added.
He said around 317 institutions were working with the Board Statewide with a capital of Rs 45 crore. "These institutions are facing problems as they lacked raw materials, working capital, artisans and were also being paid wage. It was important for them to become stable and the Board has been working out plans for their revival," he added.
