BJP demands all party meet on flood situation
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive Member and former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya today asked the Andhra Pradesh governent to convey an all party meeting to discuss the flood situation that arose due to the recent cyclone Nilam, in the state.
Addrssing a press conference here, Mr Dattareya asked the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to convey all party meeting on Nilam floods recently in which several lakhs of acre crops like Paddy, Cotton and Mirchi were damaged in the districts of East and West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur.
He also requested the Center to declare the Nilam Cyclone as a 'National Disaster' and extend support to the state.
He also asked the Chief Minister to release a 'white paper' on damage of the crops in the state due to floods.
The former Union Minister requested the Chief Minister to announce compensation for the damaged crops especialy tenant farmers of Rs 30,000 to 50,000 for Cotton and Mirchi and Rs 15,000 for paddy while Rs five lakh as ex-gratia for who loss of lives during the floods.
The BJP leader also pointed out that there was no coordination between India Metrological Department (IMD) and Natinal Desaster Management Authority (NDMA) to estimate the intensity of the Nilam.
Nearly 10 lakh acres of cotton crops were damaged in Telangana region due to Nilam rains, Mr Dattatreya said and added nearly 165 farmers were committed suicides during this season.
The suicides were continue further if the government will not extend support to the farmers, he added.
Mr Dattatreya also wrote 60th letter to the Chief Minister in this regard.
