Ethnic taste for Keralites in New Delhi from this Diwali
From this Diwali festival season, Keralites in Delhi can have a taste of ethnic produce from Kerala.
Official sources today said Kerala State Horticultural Products Development Corporation Ltd (Horticorp) has sent over 1.5 tonns of vegetables and spices to New Delhi in Kerala Express Train, which reached New Delhi yesterday.
Under the brand name of 'Kairali Queen,' Railways will be providing regular space in parcel vans bound for Delhi, Bangalore and other cities to Horticorp and other agencies for transportation of local produce from Kerala. Horticorp has procured vegetables directly from farmers of Nedumangad.
The items include Ginger, tamarind, tapioca, banana, yum, colocafia, plantain, pineapple, bread fruit, nutmeg and jackfruit.
Horticorp has informed that another 4 tonns of coconut would arrive at New Delhi from here today. Next week onwards weekly once 4 tonns of local produce will be sent to Delhi, the authorities said.
Railway is aiming to improve its revenue through parcel loading and at the same time providing farmers from state a better market opportunity.
