Vijamma requests PM for flood relief
YSR Congress Party today requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to come to the rescue of farmers and artisans who have lost their crops and property due to the Nilam cyclone and the subsequent floods that ravaged the state from November 1 to 4.
In a letter faxed to Mr Singh, a copy of which was released to the media at a press conference here, party honorary President Y S Vijayamma sought the Centre to ensure that crop loans with interest should be waived and fresh loans offered to fully affected farmers including tenant farmers besides supplying seeds for the Rabi crop at 75 per cent subsidy.
Addressing newspersons at the party central office here, party MLC Jupudi Prabhakara Rao said Vijayamma also sought an appointment with the Prime Minister at the earliest so that a party delegation would meet him to seek financial help to the flood victims.
Ms Vijayamma also sought that loans of Self Help Groups (SHGs) be rescheduled without interest by six months in the flood-hit areas and 25 per cent of the insurance amount be paid to all eligible farmers.
