The Congress party will provide an honest and a young chief minister if it comes to power in the state in elections due next month, Congress spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Rashid Alvi said today.

Addressing a rally here, Mr Alvi hit out at Chief Minister Narendra Modi and ruling BJP. He termed the Gujarat assembly elections as a prelude to the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

The BJP is levelling corruption charges against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh without producing any evidence, he said and challenged the BJP to show proof of the Prime Minister having embezzled even a single rupee.

Mr Alvi also said the Centre was considering giving some more subsidised LPG cylinders.

He asked Mr Modi, who has been complaining of shortage of cooking gas cylinders, why he does not give three additional cylinders on the line of Congress-ruled states.

Taunting the BJP, he said a party which stands by its president Nitin Gadkari shows the real face of the BJP. Those who were shown accepting money in open have been moving freely instead of being in jail, he said.

Mukesh Gadhavi, local Congress MP, said the presence of a huge crowd at the rally is a positive indication for the Congress while a negative signal to the BJP.
