Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Friday stressed the need to open the political system for the common man and said there was no reason why the party would not be able to overcome the various challenges it faces.
"The party has faced different challenges at different times in the past... There is no reason why it cannot overcome the challenges today," Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi told reporters quoting Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi was addressing party leaders and ministers at a review-cum-strategy meeting for the 2014 general elections in this Haryana town bordering the national capital.
Billed as an informal 'Samvad Baithak' (brainstorming session), the meeting was attended by 66 people, including ministers and Congress Working Committee members.
"He (Rahul) wanted systemic changes so pro-people decisions are taken quickly; people get justice and human rights are protected," Dwivedi said.
The Congress has been hit hard by allegations of corruption in the past one year while the government tried to deal with the economic slowdown and a sliding rupee.
Making a mention of the Right to Information Act, Rahul Gandhi said the law had brought transparency in the governance and would help in administrative and public life.
