Senior NCP leader and former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has underlined the need for setting up of an independent development authority for Thane district, including Navi Mumbai.
Speaking at a function last evening in Mhape in Navi Mumbai to launch the road works, he said he would soon meet the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in this regard.
He said the MMRDA has been doing good work in Mumbai and Mumbai suburban district and hence the jurisdiction of it should be restricted to Mumbai alone and Thane should have an independent authority for development, which will be TMRDA.
Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik has been time and again making this demand and the comment by Mr Pawar will surely give a push to his demand. Mr Pawar had a dig at the party floated by Arvind Kejriwal and said in a democracy every one has a right to express his views but that does not mean that there is only corruption in the country. There are some good things also which are being ignored, he said. He said the recent election results showed that the people still have confidence in the Congress-NCP combine. Mr Pawar said he had stepped down following charges of corruption.
