The Uttar Pradesh government is contemplating to rope in some megastars as brand ambassadors for giving a much-needed boost to tourism in the state.
After having seen Amitabh Bachchan's role as brand ambassador of Gujarat tourism paying rich dividends, the UP government is also on the look out for a celebrity.
It is, however, to be seen if Amitabh, considered close to the Samajwadi Party government in the state and who had already been brand ambassador of Uttar Pradesh from 2004 to 2007, would agree to be the tourism brand ambassador.
"Nothing has so far been finalised but active thinking on these lines is on at the government level," an official spokesman said.
The study of promotional campaigns in Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and their successes had also been points of discussion in the context of Uttar Pradesh, the spokesman added.
Fully aware of the fact as to how the other states have showcased their tourist spots, the UP tourism departmet has also decided to make documentaries on the major places of tourist importance like Agra, Varanasi and Kushinagar. "The idea is to publicise these documentaries through various media house to attract tourists from all over the world," Bharti Singh, the Officer of Special Duty (OSD) of UP tourism department told UNI here today.
"The states like Goa, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, MP, Kerala and Rajasthan are already doing it," she added.
The places to be included in this proposed ambitious project are Taj city of Agra, Chitrakoot, Allahabad, Ayodhya, Vindhyachal, Kashi, kalinger fort, Sarnath, Kushinagar, Shravasti and other Buddhisy circuit spots.
The state government is also in talks with four film makers and promotional agencies in this regard. A decision will be taken after the proposal is approved by the state government
