Sparkling top order steers TN to 260-2, Aparajith rises to occasion
Karnataka bowlers, as many as eight of them, although not sent on leather hunt, struggled as Tamil Nadu's top order batsmen went cracking to steer the team to 260 losing just two wickets at stumps on the first day of the second Group B league outing for both in the Ranji trophy cricket championship match here today.
At the M A Chidambaram stadium, the young hero of the day was the latest talent in Tamil Nadu cricket Baba Aparajith batting on 85 off 174 balls. Exhibiting good temperament and the strokes to match it, Aparajith, who is also an off- break bowler and the hero of India's Under 19 world cup triumph earlier this year, is 15 short of what could be his maiden Ranji century on the morrow.
Playing in only his fifth Ranji game, Aparajith's unbeaten 150 run stand in 306 balls with senior and former captain S Badrinath, ommitted from Team India for the Test series against touring England, steered the team to a commanding position.
Badrinath was batting on 61 (148 bls, four fours, one six). Both the batsmen did not enjoy any chance or life as the Tocricketing parlance goes.
