In a major fillip to internal infrastucture development, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced construction of 121 bridges involving an outlay of Rs 235 crore to link various parts of the State, paving way for easy movement of people and transportation of goods.
According to an official release here said, the bridges would be constructed in 27 districts.
It said Ms Jayalalithaa had earlier ordered construction of overbridges, subways and walkways in Chennai and suburbs at a cost of Rs 340.68 crore this year.
The Chief Minister had also earmarked Rs 2,262 crore for various projects to be taken up under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme to improve the road infrastructure.
Attaching more importance to construction of new roads to improve the rural economy, the government had last year ordered construction of new roads, railway overbridges and maintenance of bridges at a cost of Rs 3,793 crores.
