An all party meeting scheduled on November 12 to discuss the Kovalm Palace issue has been postponed as Kerala Government has not received proper legal advice on the matter which is also sub-justice, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said today.
Addressing a press conference here, he said a Government Order (GO) has been issued which states that the Kovalm Palace and related land were the property of the government.
The UDF Government had taken a strong stand on the issue. In 2004,then the UDF Government took possession of the Palace and the owner questioned this move of the Government in the High Court. The verdict came in favour of the owner, he clarified.
In 2005, the Government brought in an Ordinance in this regard and took it up again. But in January 2011, the Court ruled against the move of the Government and now the Government has gone for appeal.
He said the Government is totally right in its stand that the Palace and land belong to the Government.
The Government would go forward with the other process, only if it is agreed that the Palace and related land belongs to the Government, he added.
