PM invites UPA allies for dinner
Ahead of the winter session of the Parliament, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh invited United Progressive Alliance (UPA) allies for dinner on Sunday, media reports said on Friday.
According to reports, the UPA allies will assemble at Singh's 7, Race Course Road residence for the dinner.
The winter session of Parliament will begin on Nov 22.
The government is likely to face tough moments during the winter session with former key alliance partner Trinamool Congress (TMC) likely to move a no-confidence motion against it.
The relationship between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's TMC and the UPA touched its lowest point last month when it withdrew support to the latter over its recent economic reforms, including FDI in multi-brand retail, hike in diesel price and cap on subsidy in LPG cylinders.
Pertinently, Sunday's dinner will be the first one since the government was reduced to a minority.
TMC with 19 MPs was UPA's second biggest constituent and the biggest ally of the Congress party which spearheads the government.
India's main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to corner the government during the winter session over the issue of corruption.
