Rooney reckons 'talisman' Van Persie can conjure up Champions League title for Man U
Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has claimed 'talisman' Robin van Persie can inspire the club to win the Champions League this season.
Rooney said all European top teams have a player who can "do a bit of magic" to win games, and in United he believes 'magical' Van Persie can help bring glory to Old Trafford.
"When you look at all the teams who have won this competition, they all have had those individuals who can do a bit of magic and win the competition. Robin is like that for us. He's great for the whole team, he's our talisman," the Daily Mirror quoted Rooney, as saying.
"We've got as good a chance as anyone. I think we've got the players. We're good as a team, but we've also got some great individual players who can win games for us," he added.
According to the report, the Dutch hitman is United's player for the big occasion as he has scored key goals in the wins over Southampton, Liverpool, Cluj, Chelsea, Arsenal and Braga.
Rooney studied Van Persie at Arsenal before his 24 million pound summer switch to United and said that he has adapted his style to score more goals.
"Last season at Arsenal was his best season in the Premier League goalscoring-wise. He changed his game to playing on the shoulder more and getting in better scoring positions," he said.
"And he's strong and can hold the ball up. He's obviously a great finisher. He's a fantastic player and he's a great lad to have around the squad. We have to try and get players around him," he added.
