The Rupee depreciated today by 15 paise to 54.36 against the US Dollar on rising demand for US Dollars by banks and importers, dealers at the Interbank Foreign Exchange said.
Gaining by 40 paise in last couple of days, the domestic unit slipped by 35 paise in the opening trade.
It had tumbled by 46 paise to 54.67 during the day. Finally, it closed at 54.36, easing by 15 paise against its last close.
The rupee registered the day's high and low at 54.67 and 54.31 per USD, respectively, with a major fluctuation.
The local unit was seen weak today owing to Dollar's gain against other major world currencies. Even negative equity market also dampened the sentiment, dealers added.
