Nine-nation ministerial meet on education in Delhi
Ministers and officials from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Mexico and Nigeria will chalk out an action plan for quality education for all in the next two years at the E-9 Initiative meet here from Friday.
The theme of the two-day ministerial review meeting is 'Inclusive, Relevant Quality Education for All' and would identify and take measures to strengthen cooperation on inclusive education in the nine nations, a Human Resource Development Ministry statement said Thursday.
E in E-9 Initiative stands for education and 9 for the nine countries.
India's Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor and UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova will open the meeting.
Ministers and officials from the nine countries will then review the challenges facing them with a view to increasing bilateral and collective cooperation.
After the meeting, the ministers would adopt a joint outcome document.
The E-9 initiative was launched in 1993 in New Delhi at the Education For All (EFA) summit.
The E9 countries are home to almost half of the world's out of school children and two-third of the world's illiterate people, said the statement.
